Professor Merryn Gott, director of the Te Ārai Research Group, calls into question the privilege that underpins palliative care research. Researchers’ blind spots hide a host of inequities due to such societal factors as poverty, racism and gender. Addressing them in research is a crucial component of equitable palliative care. She champions the pockets of research being undertaken in palliative care that foreground equity but asserts more needs to be done.
